These two articles/stories connect because they both show how war can distort human relationships. In the 60 minutes episode "What Happened to Pat Tillman?" it shows that even normal people, who join war in order to fight for their country can be lost easily. Also in "The Sniper", the main character discovers that he accidently killed his brother. This causes him to feel horrible and completely distort his family relationships.

I think that war does distort human relationships, as families can be torn apart by members leaving to fight for their country.

Article: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2011/12/1112-melting-glaciers-mean-double-trouble-for-water-supplies/

This article poses two large issues. The first issue is that the Canadian glaciers are melting quicker than expected by scientists. The glaciers are melting 20-30 years before expected. This issue is not only present in Canada, the residents in peru are experiencing water shortages. The run off from their glacier is not leading into their main river. I think that this issue is a somewhat pressing matter and perhaps something should be done about it. Personally I believe that a water collection and transport system should be created to lead the water into its proper place. This would allow the residents of Peru to once again enjoy their river's water. As for the glaciers of canada I think that something should be done to conter act this problem. Perhaps they could create advertisements about the glacier issue, showing how if the glaciers melting does not come to a halt, Canadians will not be able to enjoy their beauty. In conclusion I believe that the issues presented should be dealt with.

All summer in a day relates to this article because it shows the effects of bullying in any situation. Another reason that the article relates to the story is that it shows how people should not be cruel to others because they are or act different. Also in both the article in and the story, the adults did nothing to help the victim.

In another book I read titled "Word Nerd" a young boy was being bullied by three other boys. In the book the three bullies try to actually kill the main character by planting peanuts in his food, considering he is allergic to them. Though before this event they abused him verbally and nothing was done by the school faculty or his mother. This relates to All Summer in a Day because in both of the stories bullying took place. Also in the two stories adults did nothing to prevent the bullying.

The book is available in most stores.

I think people in general discriminate against each other to feel better about themselves. Some people will try to abuse some ones imperfection by telling the victim that because of this they are considered an inferior person. Another reason people discriminate against each other is because some people need to feel that they are safe and discrimination is a way they feel safe from other people being cruel to them. My mother told me once that in high school she was bullied because the person who was teasing her felt bad about themselves and believed teasing my mother would help.
